Moore and Jack Hernan opened the Bloomington Stool Store in February
2004. The idea for a store specializing exclusively in stools
originated with Jack. Jack’s family has been creating innovative
kitchens in Madison, Wisconsin for over 50 years. The whole thing
started when Jack was visiting Europe on one of his frequent buying
trips. While there he identified the trend toward island and peninsula
counter eating areas in European kitchens long before the trend was
popular in the United States. He began showing the idea in his kitchen
showroom and accessorized the counters with high design stools.
Customers began asking if they could buy the stools so Jack took the
retail space next to his showroom and opened the first Stool Store. The
store was so successful that plans for the Bloomington store soon
followed.
